Every great journey starts with a single step, and case of learning to ride a motorbike this starts with applying for a provisional licence.
Note drivers holding a category B (Car) licence do not need a provisional licence.
The provisional currently costs £50. By far the quickest way to apply for your licence is via the gov.uk website
To apply online you’ll need a debit or credit card, proof of identity such as valid passport, and you address details for the past three years.
Alternatively you can apply by picking up a D1 form from your local post office. Both routes allow you to apply up to three months before you begin riding. (16 years old if you want to ride a moped).
You cannot ride on the road until you’ve completed a Compulsory Basic Training (CBT) course. We’ll cover that next.
